Once again we are at the start of a new month! October has come and gone- here’s a recap of what went down:
Training really started to heat up. I ran a lot of miles this past month.. but I was also sidelined a bit. My schedule has called for double long runs the week I run longer miles. I’m not used to this level of crazy (what.. 16 miles is not enough.. I have to run 6 the day before!?!?) My training to a bit of a detour however when I ran “17” miles at the Baltimore Running Festival and started having pain in my foot. (The same one I injured back in April.) I took the week after the race to rehab it.. didn’t run most of that week, with the exception of about 15 minutes to test out my foot before Marine Corp weekend. I decided I was ok to run the 10K, but my pain came back during the race. I haven’t run since then (about a week and half ago) and I did go see a running specialist to assess the damage. More on the result of that later, but let’s just say I’m still on the fence with choosing to run the 10K I have planned this weekend.. so stay tuned.
In the beginning of October, my husband took a trip to Cove Haven, a couples resort in the Poconos. There we had a fantastic time soaking in our own private pool, playing games of billiards and table and real tennis, soaking up views of the lake, taking in the wildlife, and eating lots of sweets. While we were there we celebrated our first wedding anniversary. It was a great (but brief) escape!
We got to see the I Love Lucy Live on Stage show.. we had a great time, but were close to the youngest ones there.
My friends, my husband and I got to run at the Baltimore Running Festival. My husband and I did the 5K, and my friends and I did the half marathon. It was a beautiful day and a fantastic race. I didn’t remember how hilly Baltimore was though.. and had a hard time finishing my 13.1. My feet and legs were KILLING me.. and some of the pain lingered a bit in my foot, which sidelined my training a little. It was a rude awakening in the face of Dopey.. I’ve got to really take care of myself out there!
Marine Corp Marathon Weekend
The weekend before Halloween, I got to go to DC with my friends who were running the Marine corp Marathon. Back when the lottery opened, my friends asked me if I wanted to join their group for the chance to run MCM. I elected out because I didn’t want to run a full marathon before I ran Dopey- there were too many risks involved and being the conservative runner I am, would rather make it to Dopey in one piece than do another big race beforehand and risk injury. BUT, I elected to go with them and run in the 10K race. We ate a great dinner, had cake at a local bakery, and ordered cupcakes from Georgetown Cupcake. The races? Well they were somewhat disastrous, as only Aaron (Randi’s husband) came out unscathed. Even I, who ran the shorter distance, had some lingering foot issues, which has since further sidelined my training. It was a fun weekend.. but was completely exhausting mentally and physically.
Last weekend was Halloween weekend. My mother-in-law came down to visit from NY. Friday my husband and I spent the day shopping, doing chores, and preparing for her visit. Friday night, I stayed home and handed out candy to the trick-or-treaters (with Zeus’s help, of course) and my husband went to the train station to pick her up. We had a late dinner of my home-made stuffed pepper soup (an easy and very tasty recipe!) and hung out and chatted. Saturday morning was much of the same. The weather was cold and rainy, and windy, so we couldn’t really go anywhere to do anything. Then I thought it might be nice to see a move, so I looked up the times at our local theater. I saw that gone Girl was playing at a good time, so I suggested that one. My husband and MIL were agreeable, so we went to the 4 pm show. (The movie was pretty good.. though that woman was MAJOR psycho.. and that’s all I’m going to say about that.) After the movie we went to a nice Italian place for dinner. Sunday morning I made crepes for breakfast and around 9 we turned on the NYC Marathon coverage (naturally!) My husband took my MIL back to the station around 11. It was nice to get all the chores done before her visit because all we had to do on Sunday was the laundry. It was a nice weekend and a good time was had by all.
